Week 30
Baby's Length: 11 to 17 in.
Baby's Weight: 3 lbs.
Baby's Size: Loaf of Bread
Your baby is now about 15 ½ inches long and weighs almost 3 pounds. His brain is still developing, as his head grows larger to accommodate it. Early lanugo is starting to disappear, as he begins to gain fat deposits to insulate his body temperature. His toenails and fingernails have grown long and his bone marrow is starting to function. Your baby can actually produce tears now, and he can move his eyes and head towards a bright light.
Your baby's swallowing and sucking skills are developing. The baby will spend about 80 per cent of his sleeping time in REM (dream) mode. If you are expecting a boy, his testicles are beginning to make their journey towards the groin area from their position near the kidneys. Your baby's immune system is beginning to develop. He is at his most active this week as there is still enough room to move about. There is lots of rapid brain development at this stage, as the nerve fibres develop to allow brain impulses to travel faster and so increase your baby's ability to learn.
